The Villa Motel
I shot this new series at an abandoned motel in San Mateo, CA of a group of older asian men atending a convention. The series got in the APA/LA and APA/SF shows and was a ton of fun to shoot. It was all done in one long day. When the guys all showed up at dawn wearing those suits I knew I had something special. The big fear was that is was so good that I would blow it. Like shooting fish in a barrel. I have been in situations where the location is so interesting or the light so beautiful that I forget how to make a simple photograph.
This was the first shot of the day and I liked the idea that all these guys showed up at this convention in the same car. But how would they all fit if they didn't use the trunk? So i asked one the guys to hop in and he did it like it was something he had done a thousand times.

This is a great concept. And I want to have lunch with the guy who didn't mind getting in the trunk.
